Japan launches the production of SUVs in Ukraine: the requirements of the Armed Forces are growing (photo)

In April 2022, 51 pickup Fiat Fullback 4x4 was handed over to Ukraine, designed for use by Ukrainian units, such as PTRC and MSC detachments. On the eve of December 17, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine announced plans for drawing up Japanese pickups in Ukraine. Yulia Sviridenko, the head of the department made this statement during a business forum organized by the Japanese Foreign Trade Organization. The news is published on the Government Portal website.

A joint enterprise of Ukrainian manufacturers and a Japanese engineering company will first use the technology of semi -disassembly (SKD), and later it is planned to switch to production with full disassembly (CKD). According to Sviridenko, the initiative signals the potential for larger Japanese investments in Ukraine. The minister called on Japanese companies to consider the possibility of localization of production.

The Armed Forces are increasingly used by Japanese pickups, including ISUZU D-Max and Toyota Hilux, because of their off-road capabilities, reliability and repair, Army Recognition analysts, which highlights the latest innovations in the military. Cars are used for different, including crew transportation, evacuation and use as a platform for easy weapons.

The National Police of Ukraine uses specialized ISUZU D-Max pickups for patrol, they are equipped with acoustic signals, protected by freight compartments and communication systems. In addition, tactical cars such as light trucks of Mitsubishi Type 73 are also used. In April 2022, 51 pickup Fiat Fullback 4x4 was erected for use by Ukrainian units, such as PTRC and MSC detachments. The Fiat Fullback, which was released from 2016 to 2019, was developed during FIAT and Mitsubishi Motors.

The Mitsubishi L-200 pickup, which uses the Kryvyi Rih Military Police Brigade, was also armed with three launching installations of 122 mm caliber. In addition, 26 pickups, mostly Japanese, were handed over to British farmers in November 2023 and delivered a group of volunteers to Lviv. ISUZU-the main participant of such supplies since January 2024, the company plans to collect its pickup D-Max at the Cherkasy Bus Plant, which is part of Ataman Enterprises.

This solution corresponds to the increased demand of Ukraine for vehicles that can work in difficult conditions. The D-Max, equipped with a 1. 9-liter turbodic engine with a capacity of 163 k/s, is capable of overcoming the crossed terrain. It establishes heavy weapons, such as machine guns and mortars. Cherkasy Plant, which produced 500 buses and 350 trucks of 2023, plans to expand production of 2024 to 600 buses and 500 trucks.
