Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree that increased the number of Russian army by 170 thousand people. This was reported in the Ministry of Defense of Russia. According to the document, now the staffing of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be 2 209 130 people, of whom servicemen - 1 320 000 people.

It is noted that the execution of the decree will not happen immediately, but in stages. In particular, at the expense of Russian citizens who will voluntarily sign a contract for service in the Russian army. Therefore, the Russian Ministry of Defense says that Russia does not envisage mobilization and increase the conscription. The reason for this decision is called the rise in threat to Russia through the war in Ukraine and the "expansion of NATO".

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation says that the presence of NATO troops seems to be increasing near the Russian borders and additional air defense and shock weapons are unfolding. The ministry also declares an increase in the nuclear potential of the Alliance. In particular, they say that by the end of 2025, the United States plans to replace 200 outdated nuclear aircraft in Europe and Turkey with a new high -precision version.

Last year, the Russian president signed a decree increasing the number of Russian army by 137 thousand soldiers - up to 1. 15 million people. They stated that this should happen in parallel with the supply of weapons, equipment and the construction of new landfills.
