Mirror reaction: The Russian Federation declared a possible restoration of nuclear tests

To extend: against the background of growing intensity in the field of global security, Secretary of Security of Russia, Sergei Shoigu stated the possibility of restoration of nuclear tests if the United States of America took similar steps. He made such a statement on April 24 in an interview with TASS State Agency. According to Shogu, Moscow's position on this issue will depend directly on Washington's policy.

As potential reasons capable of pushing the US to recover tests, it indicated the expiration of the life of a part of the US nuclear arsenal, as well as the development of new weapons that need tests. "Now in the United States, the warranty period of certain types of nuclear ammunition is over, the development of new types of weapons is ongoing. And this may push Washington to restore nuclear tests. In this case, Russia can take action in response," - said the Secretary of the Russian Radbeza.

Shoiga has traditionally responded to Russian strategic weapons in the spirit of "Analogues" and stressed that in recent years Russia has significantly strengthened its strategic forces by adopting the adoption of modernized systems, which made it possible to significantly increase the country's defensive potential.

However, he added that in the current conditions, Moscow does not consider it necessary to carry out nuclear tests, continuing to adhere to a unilateral moratorium introduced by the Soviet Union. It should be noted that the last explosion of the Soviet nuclear charge with a capacity of 70 kilotonons took place on October 24, 1990 on a new land, after which the USSR announced a unilateral moratorium on nuclear weapons testing.
