Russia was officially accused of killing the Malaysian Boeing MN17: what will happen next

To spread: Russia was officially found guilty of the MH17 flight in Donetsk in 2014, when 298 people were killed. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, which, together with Australia, filed a lawsuit against ICAO in connection with the aircraft disaster. The Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recognized the Russian Federation as responsible for the killing of the Malaysian passenger aircraft MH17 in July 2014.

The decision to recognize the aggressor country is responsible for the beating of the MH17 ICAO flight on Monday, May 12, as a result of the vote. The vast majority of the Council members supported the decision. The Foreign Minister of the Netherlands Caspar Veldkmp noted that he was satisfied with the decision. This was done primarily for the sake of relatives of the victims of the tragedy.

"This decision cannot deprive them of grief and suffering, but it is an important step towards establishing truth, justice and responsibility. In addition, it is a clear signal to the international community that states cannot violate international law without consequences," the politician said. In particular, in the coming weeks, the ICAO Council will decide how the Russian Federation should provide compensation.

The organization should then oblige the Russians to start negotiating with the Netherlands and Australia and assist them. The Boeing-777 Malaysia Airlines Airlines, which operated Mn17, Amsterdam (Netherlands)-Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), was shot down in the sky above Donetsk region on July 17, 2014. All 298 people who were on board were killed, many of them were citizens of the Netherlands, so the country became one of the most interested parties in the fair punishment of the culprits.

The trial in the case of a downed flight began on March 9, 2020 in the SHIPGOL court complex in the Netherlands. In the tragedy, the Russians were actively accused of Ukraine. It should be reminded that according to the Dutch investigators, it was at the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin that the DNR fighters put the anti-aircraft missile system "Beech", from which the Malaysian "Boeing" was subsequently shot.
