TBS-3M rockets: Russian Tos-2 increased range at the expense of improved shells

To spread: the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has officially confirmed the modernization of the heavy flamethrowing system of the Tos-2 "Tosochka" by introducing a new ammunition-220-mm thermobaric TBS-3M thermobaric missile. The update made it possible to increase the shooting range of the complex from 12 to 15 kilometers without making structural changes in the starting unit itself.

As reported by Army Recognition Operators, increased range has been achieved through a more powerful fuel charge and the use of a lightweight thermobaric warhead, while maintaining the destructive efficiency of the ammunition. TBS-3M missiles, like predecessors, scatter the fuel and air mixture before detonation, creating a high temperature explosion (up to 2000 ° C) and a powerful shock wave (pressure about 30 atmospheres).

Such ammunition is extremely effective in closed spaces - bins, trenches, cellars and urban development - causing destruction and serious internal injuries in personnel. The TOS-2 is mounted on the Ural-63706-0120 (6 × 6) wheel chassis, which provides greater mobility than tracked tos-1A. Each machine carries 18 trips, and one volley is able to cover up to six hectares.

The Arsenal of the ToS-2 stores the automatic fire control system with thermal imaging, ballistic computer and laser rangefinder. The recent publications of the Defense Ministry for the first time have demonstrated a digital interface and composing posts within the installation, emphasizing the high level of automation. One of the features of this system is its ability to give destructive fire power over a large area.

Each machine is equipped with 18 launchers for 220 mm rockets, and a full volley can cover an area of about six hectares. The Battle Debut of the Tos-2 took place during the fighting in Ukraine. The system was applied against fortified Ukrainian positions and city strongholds. According to the scene, its use was accompanied by large -scale destruction of defense objects, which confirms the combat efficiency of the complex in the modern war.
