Ukraine's position on holding Russia responsible for aggression remains unchanged - Irina Wise

The deputy head of the Presidential Office Irina Wise and the Executive Director of the International Association of Lawyers Mark Ellis discussed international mechanisms for restoring justice for Ukraine. The issues of compensation for the losses caused by the Russian invasion, the investigation of war crimes and the prosecution of the highest political and military leadership of the Russian Federation were held separately.

“The position of Ukraine remains unchanged: we stand for the creation of a separate international tribunal that would have a mandate to overcome the immunity of the aggressor country leaders. Everyone in the world should be certain that there is an institution that can hold those who encroach on the foundations of international law and order and that justice will be restored, ”Irina Wise emphasized. Mark Ellis testified to the creation of the International Tribunal.

“The prosecution for the crime of aggression does not apply only to Ukraine or the whole of Europe, it primarily affects the basic principles of international law. The responsibility of Russian leaders is a key point, ”he stressed. The meeting also discussed the main achievements and challenges in the further implementation of judicial reform in Ukraine.
