NATO fighters intercepted the Russian IL-20 over the Baltic Sea

The Russian reconnaissance aircraft, which has a modern radar system for collecting intelligence, did not respond to request requests. NATO fighters climbed into the sky to intercept the Russian scout aircraft, which was spotted above the Baltic Sea. Il-20 flew near the Swedish Island of Gotland on Tuesday, April 9. This is stated in the German Air Force post on the social network account X.

The Russian IL-20 sent Swedish fighters Jas 39 Gripen, as well as two German fighter Eurofighter Typhoon from the Air Base near the city of Laga. The Russian plane, which has a modern radar system for collecting intelligence, did not respond to request requests. The NATO Air Force Command on AirCom (AirCom) has published images of fighters on the IL-20 flank. Russian aircraft regularly violate the airspace of NATO member states.

However, this is not classified as an unauthorized invasion of the country's airspace and a direct violation of its sovereignty. Only in 2023 NATO intercepted Russian military aircraft 300 times, writes Mirror. The Gotland Island, called the Giant Aircraft carrier, is located 120 miles from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and 230 miles north of Russian Kaliningrad located between Poland and Lithuania.
