Sanctions against the Russian Federation: EU has introduced new restrictions due to Kremlin hybrid threats

The EU believes that such hybrid threats from Moscow are intervention in elections, sabotage of critical infrastructure, misinformation, cyberattacks and manipulation of migration processes. The EU Council has introduced new framework restrictions on the Russian Federation if it performs destabilization. These restrictions allow sanctions against persons and organizations that underwent sovereignty and safety in the EU, according to the Prescrilization of the European Council.

The text states that the corresponding decision was made on the basis of the proposal of the Supreme Representative for Foreign Affairs of Josepa Borrel and is the answer to the increase in the number of hybrid operations of the Russian Federation in Europe. The new EU solution receives new mechanisms that will be aimed at counteracting hybrid threats, such as interference with electoral processes, sabotage of critical infrastructure, spreading misinformation and cyber attacks.

A separate point of hybrid threats in this decision, the Council of EU has indicated manipulations with the issues of migration flows, as well as other actions to which destabilization actions that have recently intensified in the territory of the European Union. "According to the newly created system, the assets of the respective persons will be frozen, and EU citizens and companies will be forbidden to provide them with funds.

In addition, individuals will also be prohibited for entry that will ban them entry or transit through the EU territory," - indicated in the decision of the EU Council. We will remind, on September 30 journalist Ricard Josvyak reported that the EU will introduce the regime of thematic sanctions against the Russian Federation. According to the journalist, the EU ambassadors held a meeting where new restrictions were discussed against Russia due to the growth of hybrid threats on its part.
