All registration machines should leave Finland until March 16 - media

Cars registered in Russia can no longer cross the Finnish border and will be returned back to customs. Vehicles with Russian numbers should leave the territory of Finland until the next Saturday, March 16. About it reports the Finnish edition of Yle. According to Yle, this law prohibiting entry into the country of cars registered in the Russian Federation came into force in the fall of 2023. It clearly states the term to which all cars with Russian numbers in Finland should leave the country.

"What happens to Russian cars after this date is a difficult question," says Rakshit himself head of the customs control department. According to him, it will be evaluated why the car was still in Finland, how long it has spent here and whether the necessary formalities were fulfilled. A more detailed action plan is still in the development, the official assured. In addition, cars registered in Russia can no longer cross the Finnish border and will be returned back to customs.

Now only EU citizens who reside in Russia, their families, diplomats or persons equivalent to diplomats can come to the car with Russian numbers to Finland. Exceptions can also be made for cars that are heading across the border for humanitarian purposes.

Entry to Finland for tourist purposes for the Russians is still closed, but there are several categories that can still cross the border: recently Lithuanian customs warned that cars with Russian registration numbers should leave Lithuania and the whole territory of the European Union until March 11 2024 the year. Currently, all Baltic countries have banned the entry of cars with the numbers of the Russian Federation.

These prohibitions were also introduced by Poland, Finland, Norway and Bulgaria. However, the Russians use the Kaliningrad Transit train to get to the European Union through Lithuania. On November 9, 2023, Finland forbade the Russians to enter the country on bicycles. In this way, illegal migrants tried to get into the country.
