A new look at high -precision weapons: what is the peculiarity of Israeli mortar Iron Sting

By the accuracy of damage to the goals, mortar can be compared to high -precision air base weapons. However, Iron Sting is simpler in use and relatively cheap weapons. During the four months of Israel's war against Hamas fighters, the Israeli Defense Army (Tsakhal) has used a number of new technologies and platforms. Among them is the high -precision Iron Sting mortar, which was first presented in 2021, but which was not used in the battle until recently.

A new look at weapons was told by Breaking Defense in exclusive material from February 26. The authors of the publication visited a military base in the central part of Israel, where they were rarely acquainted with Iron Sting. During their visit, they met with Lieutenant Colone Cohen, who participated in the development of mortar in the management of defense research and development of the Ministry of Defense. Cohen noted that in fact, Iron Sting mortar is a unique weapon in the world.

According to him, weapons have such a level of accuracy that is usually inherent in air base missiles, but at the same time it has a mortar that can be learned to control every soldier. This means that Iron Sing can be used against specific purposes in a complex setting with which the tanal faces gas, which, in turn, makes it possible to avoid the need to strike an air strike.

The fact that Cohen explained that in operation the high -precision mortar replaces the concept of mortars as static weapons. On the one hand, one Iron String can be used instead of several mortars to neutralize goals, on the other, it is cheaper in equipment and deployment than air base weapons. The starting unit can be installed on a vehicle such as M113 or Humvee.

The internal equipment, experts noted, is extremely clear and intuitive, even taking into account the installed guidance system with GPS and a laser seeker. The experts also noted the variability of goals. So after a shot, the operator can choose a projectile explosion with a approaching sensor, that is, in the air directly above the target. In another embodiment, the projectile can punch the target and then explode.

The mortar has the protection against the lesion: if the computer analyzes its trajectory and needs to cancel the target damage, the ammunition is neutralized and landed as not broken, which makes it impossible for accidental harm to people and property. In conclusion, the observers write that it is unknown at this time how many such systems are armed with a tile, but the Israeli military always ask for more such mortars, noting their effectiveness.
