Russia is leading a hybrid war against Latvia - Minister of Defense

Latvian Defense Minister Andris Prauds drew attention to certain manipulations on the Latvian border with Belarus and the Latvian-Russian border, as well as on the border of Finland and Russia. Russia uses cyberattacks and misinformation campaigns to implement a hybrid war against Latvia. At a joint press conference with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, Latvian Defense Minister Andris Prauds answered the question of "Radio Liberty" on the situation with security in his country.

He stressed that the Baltic state has to deal with an aggressive imperialist country that attacked Ukraine. There are already some actions to counteract the attacks of Russia. "We are absolutely realists in this matter," the official explained. Andris prauds drew attention to the fact that there were some manipulations on the Latvian border. In the case of Belarus, this is already happening, but such actions can be traced on the Latvian-Russian border, as well as on the verge of Finland and Russia.

The diplomat emphasized that the country should be ready in all areas - whether it is for a normal or hybrid war. According to him, the daily task is to increase readiness and defense. The Minister of Defense summed up that Latvia would study in Ukraine. Ukrainian experience will increase the safety of the Baltic country. He emphasized that there is knowledge that can be exchanged. Latvia thoroughly strengthens the border with Belarus.

During the visit of the Eastern border of Latvia on Friday, September 22, the Minister of Internal Affairs Richard Kozloskis. The barrier on the land part of the border is planned to be completed by the end of this year. In August, Latvia increased safety measures at the border with Belarus. Latvian border guards have declared an increase in the number of incidents with illegal migrants. Border guards caught Belarus on helping illegal migrants.
