Not far from Carmen de Atrato community in the Choko region, the soil shifts occurred. As a result, the road connecting the cities of Medelin and Kibdo was blocked. The victims of the soil shift in the northwest of Colombia, which occurred on Saturday, January 13, were at least 33 people. Another 19 people were injured, rescue operations continue. This was reported by the BBC news service. The shift happened near the Carmen de Atrato community in the Choko region.

Tons of land and fragments of trees blocked the road connecting the cities of Medelin and Kibo, so people left their cars and hid in houses. After that, another shift of the soil, which simply buried people in their homes and cars. Columbia President Gustavo Prato promised "all the help" to the injured region. The man who survived after the landslide, told reporters that about 60 people, mostly women with children, gathered in one of the houses, which probably seemed to be stronger.

But then in seconds, he shifted above the house and machines standing nearby and erased from the face of the earth. Vice president Frances Marquez Mina reported that assistance agencies, local authorities, police and army were involved in supporting the search and rescue work in the Choko Province. The area in Choco province on the Pacific coast, covered with thick forests. On Friday and Saturday, there were heavy showers, which caused the shifts.

On Saturday, January 13, the local mayor stated that some people still remain under the rubble and debris of houses. While other Columbia regions are now experiencing a strong drought, the Institute for Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Research in the country has previously warned of the danger posed by polls on the Pacific coast and in the Tropical Forests of the Amazon. We will remind, in the summer of 2023 at the mountain resort of Georgia there was a shift of the soil.
