The enemy appeared in parks and forests: a dangerous pest got to Ukraine from the Russian Federation (infographics)

To spread: the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection has warned the threat to forests and urban green areas. It is a narrow border of Yasnev - an insect that destroys trees and causes significant economic losses. According to the State Consumer Service, a quarantine pest is spreading in Ukraine - Agrilus Planipennis, which is a danger to ash plantations. Insect fires have already been recorded in Kyiv, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Luhansk regions.

Experts point out that this species comes from East Asia and got to Ukraine from the territory of Russia. The presence of a pest poses a threat to both natural forests and urban green areas, where ash is often planted for decorative purposes. The adult beetle is small, about 8-14 mm long, with a characteristic metal greenish-blue glitter. Larvae reaching up to 30 mm penetrate the wood and damage the vascular system of the tree, which eventually leads to its death.

One generation is formed in the year, the larvae winter under the bark. Among the main signs of lesions are the drying of branches, the appearance of yellow leaves, the growth of young shoots at the base of the trunk. Also characteristic of "S"-the shaped moves under the bark and holes of the round shape, through which an adult insect comes out.

The State Consumer Service emphasizes that the narrow salary causes the loss of decorative of urban plantations, economic losses due to the reduction of markets for the markets of ash wood and the risk of destruction of entire ecosystems. To restrain the spread of the pest, monitoring and regular examinations of trees are carried out. The affected plantations are recommended to be removed and destroyed by grinding and burning.

Also in the quarantine zones it is forbidden to remove ash wood, including firewood, and planting seedlings of this species. Owners of gardens and gardens should be inspected regularly trees and if possible to plant other breeds, if the territory belongs to the risk area. In case of detection of signs of damage, the territorial bodies of the State Consumer Service should be notified.

"Timely detection and destruction of damaged trees is the only way to keep planting and prevent large -scale pest spread," the department said. In addition, information materials for the population on signs of gum damage, methods of pest control and ways of spreading other dangerous species, including American white butterfly, have been prepared in conjunction with the European project EU4SAFERFOOD.
