Tens of billions of euros: named EU country that has frozen the most assets of the Russian Federation

The small European state arrested 58 billion euros of Russian assets, as well as blocked financial transactions from the Russian Federation for 191 billion euros. During the year of the full -scale war of the Russian Federation with Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance of Belgium has frozen Russian assets by 58 billion euros, which is the highest indicator among the EU countries. This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Finance of Belgium Vincent Van Petegem.

According to Van Petegem, the use of sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation through its military aggression is a priority for Belgium. "The war in Ukraine lasts longer than we all thought and feared. Therefore, strict compliance with economic sanctions against Russia remains extremely important," the minister said. The head of the Ministry of Finance noted that his department blocked Russian financial transactions for 191 billion euros.

In general, Belgium's financial restrictions have affected 1789 Russian companies or citizens on the black list. In addition, the Belgian Customs has intensified import and export inspections. Thus, during the year of the full -scale war on the Russian Federation and Belarus, 91 020 declarations and 7 925 containers were checked.

According to the Ministry of Finance, 19 official reports of violations of import and export have already been transferred to the prosecutor's office, and 15 more are under training. Earlier, on February 17, the European Commission Representative Didier Reinders reported that as a result of sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation due to a full -scale invasion of Ukraine, the European Union managed to freeze 21. 5 billion euros of Russian assets.

On February 15, the press service of the Federal Council of Switzerland stated that the confiscation of frozen Russian assets for the restoration of Ukraine was impossible. At the same time, the department believes that the Kremlin is obliged to pay Ukraine compensation for the damage caused. On February 24, the White House reported that the Great Seven countries decided not to use frozen Russian assets before the full -scale war in Ukraine was over.
