Russian troops were able to break through Ukrainian defense in the western direction and began the implementation of a plan from the potential environment of the city. At the end of May, the Putin forces almost reached the Kleban-Bick reservoir-the last major natural obstacle before the approaches to Konstantinovka. Already this summer, this city can become the main target of a new stage of the offensive of the Russian army in the Donbass.

Despite regular shelling and destruction of about 20-30% of the housing stock, there are still up to 9,000 civilians in Konstantinovka. The full -scale invasion of the city's population was approximately 70,000. In 2023–2024, Konstantinovka was considered a relatively safe rear zone, but the situation changed dramatically after the activation of Russian troops in the Bakhmut and Temporal Yar - now the threat to the city has increased many times over.

According to servicemen, the closest purpose of the invaders is the formation of a semicircle around Konstantinovka and the establishment of fire control over Ukrainian logistics. If this plan is implemented, the defense units will have to leave the fortified positions in the Toretsk area to avoid the environment. At the same time, the course of events depends largely on the availability and level of preparation of reserves that can be used by both sides.

According to the Institute of War Study, on May 21, Russian troops continued the offensive actions at the time of the Ovearsk direction, but without success - no promotion was recorded. During May 20–21, the Russians attacked the positions of the Ukrainian forces directly near the time ravine, as well as to the south - in areas of settlements Predictine and White Mountain, and to the southwest - near Kurdyumivka.

The spokesman of the Ukrainian brigade at the time of May 21 told about the growing use of FPV-punks with optic cables by Russians. The enemy not only increases their quantity, but also increases quality, attracting experienced units.
