Vakulenko's parents hoped to find a son who was abducted by the occupiers alive for almost six months. But the results of DNA examination confirmed his death. The Russian military during the occupation of Izium (Kharkiv region) was abducted and then killed by a children's writer Vladimir Vakulenko. The evidence of the death on Monday, November 28 was received by the writer's parents, the writer Irina Novitskaya reported on her Facebook page.

"Tonight to the parents of Vladimir Vakulenko reported that the DNA-examination confirmed: in the burial number 319 there was the body of their son," Novitskaya wrote. Information on the death of the Ukrainian writer was confirmed by journalists of "Public". But she was told that her son was no longer in Ukraine.

After the Armed Forces were decomposed by the Izium, information was found that the remains of Vladimir Vakulenko were found at the site of mass burial in grave # 319. However, later a spokesman for the Kharkiv region prosecutor's office denied this information and stated that at 319 law enforcement officers found the body of an unknown woman. DNA expertise was assigned to clarify all the circumstances of the expected death of the writer.
