The President of Ukraine and the Prime Minister of Japan discussed defense cooperation, air defense and assistance to the Ukrainian energy industry

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, and congratulated her on her new post. The head of state thanked Japan for its respect for the courage of Ukrainians, its constant assistance to Ukraine, and its principles throughout the entire time since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Ukraine and Japan equally understand the dangers that the Russian war poses for everyone in the world.

The leaders discussed opportunities to join forces for greater security and development for both peoples and regions. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted the readiness of both countries to work together to develop the strongest technologies to protect life, taking into account the changes and challenges brought by this war.

The President informed about Ukraine's intentions to develop controlled arms exports and build strong partnerships for joint production of modern weapons capable of protecting partners from threats. The Head of State also spoke about Ukraine's need to strengthen air defense to protect life in cities and energy infrastructure, which is the first target for Russia.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that he greatly appreciates the readiness of Japan and Sanae Takaichi to help in the energy sector with appropriate equipment that will help Ukrainian cities and communities this winter. Ukraine is also interested in increasing cooperation with Japan for reconstruction and recovery. Special attention is given to diplomatic work.
