Better colony: captive Russians refuse to go home - the media
The publication explained that Ukraine receives captive Russians in special colonies. They get into the colony, having passed a number of prison centers and talking to law enforcement officers: who were suspected of committing crimes, violations of the rules of war, they separate. The rest, after some time in the colony, can return home. At the same time, from the moment of captivity to the moment of return, "several months", noted in the material.
There are cases where captives of Russian soldiers are asked not to rush to the exchange, the authors note. In particular, they are asked to take the time or the expiration of the contract or even before the war. At the same time, they do not stop the idea that all this time will have to be spent on the walls of the colony. However, there is another option - to join the volunteer corps, which is fighting on the side of Ukraine.
It is noted that most of the prisoners of Russians continue to believe that the war against the Ukrainian "Nazis". Although the publication found a resident of the Tula region of the Russian Federation, who stated that "this war is in vain" and so he "wants to go home. " The Economist provides some details of the Russians in Ukrainian colonies. For example, captives are entitled to calls to their relatives and receiving parcels.
It is indicated that they do unskilled work: glue packages or make garden gazebos. There are very few officers among prisoners and even when they are there, they do not force them. It is also indicated which contingent is captured and how the contingent changed during the war. In particular, in the first months of the war, residents of Donetsk and Luhansk regions were captured, mobilized for war in Ukraine. Then a wave of mercenaries of Wagner PEC went.
The present wave consists of three parts: exposed from the battalions "Storm-3", mobilized citizens of the Russian Federation, personnel military. Another question on which the Economist has stopped is the so -called "ill -treatment of Ukrainians in relation to prisoners of Russians. " There is a reference to the UN report, published in March 2023. It is in this report that 49% of the captives of the Russians declared "torture" during captivity (instead, 92% of Ukrainians said the same).
They also recognize that they know about the situation in Ukrainian colonies because they are freely allowed to prisoners. Meanwhile, they do not have data in Russia at all - representatives of the International Red Cross have never been allowed in prison where Ukrainians are being held. Earlier, the Ministry of Defense GUR published a video from the colony where the captives of the Russians were kept. The video shows how prisoners live: have fresh bread, full three meals a day, hygiene measures.
