"Lies and Barbarity": in the EU threatened Putin and Shoigy responsibility for the shelling of Odessa
This was discussed during the Special Permanent Council of the OSCE No. 1435, which took place in Vienna on July 25. The EU mission statement under the OSCE states that an attack on cultural and religious objects in Odessa is another illustration that Russian statements about the so -called "sincere" interest in the "protection" of these objects, as well as cultural rights, freedoms of religion and beliefs of people living in Ukraine.
In fact, Barbarian Russia is trying to destroy the cultural and religious heritage of Ukraine to subordinate Ukraine and to erase its original identity, according to the delegation. It was stated that since February 24, 2022, UNESCO has confirmed the damage due to Russian aggression already 270 cultural objects in Ukraine, including 116 religious sites.
The EU stressed that Russia is obliged to comply with the Hague Convention in 1954 on the protection of cultural values during armed conflict, and intentionally directing attacks on the object of cultural heritage under protection is a war crime. The EU requires Russia to immediately stop attacks on cultural heritage.
"The political and military leadership of Russia, as well as all guilty of military and other serious crimes committed in connection with the aggressive war of Russia against Ukraine, will be brought to court and will be responsible. Ukraine and its people must receive justice and adequate reparations from Russia," the statement said. We will remind that on the night of July 23 Odesa suffered a massive shelling from the air by the Russian invaders.
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation released 19 rockets of different types in the city, including "Caliber", "Onyx", "Iskander" and X-22. According to the Odessa municipality, shelling led to damage to 61 buildings, including 28 architectural monuments, such as the House of Scientists, Zhvanetsky Boulevard and the Transfiguration Cathedral.
We will also remind, on July 24, the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov said that the Transfiguration Cathedral can fall at any time due to the unstable position of one of the walls. According to the mayor, there are emergency areas in the temple that pose a potential threat to those who work there and for people who come to look at the scale of destruction.
