The meeting of the Ukrainian and Russian side was organized on the initiative of the Turkish Ombudsman Seref Malkock, in which the three -stage plan of exchange of prisoners was agreed. It is reported that during the negotiations, Ukraine presented an exchange list of 800 people, and Russia - out of 200. For its part, Malkoch appealed to the Ombudsmen of the Russian Federation and Ukraine to appeal to its leaders and clarify the mechanism of exchange of prisoners.

It should be noted that on January 15, the Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmitry Lubinets stated that the idea of ​​creating a humanitarian corridor between Ukraine and the Russian Federation, which sounded from the Turkish Ombudsman, was generally positive. "Currently, the idea of ​​the Turkish side is that they want to become mediators, they want their communication channels and civilians, or the wounded military could first return to Turkey and then to the territory of Ukraine," Lubinets said.

At the same time, the Kremlin's press service reports that on January 16, a telephone conversation was held between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Turkish leader Recep Erdogan, during which the head of states discussed the exchange of prisoners of war and, above all, those who have injured.
