The Russian Armed Forces sent a "mini-sunset" flamethrower to the front: what is hidden behind this name (photo)
It is noted that the new system is an NRK with an installed combat module of a single-use reactive weapon and launchers for ammunition of the RPO-A "Bumblebee" type, which differs from the TOS-1A "Solntsepek" with its 220 mm thermobaric projectiles. In other words, the system is compared to the TOS-1A in terms of its conceptual purpose, but in actual design it is a robotic platform with one-time rocket shots, and not a classic heavy flamethrower system.
The developer of the complex is the Moscow company "Robototechniki inzhiniring". The existence of the project became known in August of this year. The reports noted that the question of the effectiveness of the system and whether it will become a mass element of weapons or remain in the form of individual samples remains open for now.
Meanwhile, Defense Express analysts do not rule out that similar solutions can still take their place on the front, although currently, shock robotic complexes are much less common on the front lines, compared to the same NRKs that provide logistics and evacuation. It will be recalled that in July it became known about the use on the Ukrainian front of the newest modification of the Russian TOS-1A "Solntsepek" heavy flamethrower system based on the T-80 main battle tank.
Western analysts noted that the T-80 platform has better mobility and is adapted for the integration of modern protective equipment, but due to the high gluttony and difficulty in servicing gas turbine engines, its use was considered impractical for a long time. Previously, Focus wrote about the rapid increase in the pace of production of military equipment for the Russian Armed Forces: The Economist media reported that the number of new tanks is 10 times greater than NATO's capabilities.
