Not for F-16: Lockheed Martin introduced the Jassm XR Extreme Dent Rockets (Video)

According to journalists, the increase in the total weight of the rocket will not allow it to complete it some battle aircraft such as F-16 Fighting Falcon. But F/A-18 Super Hornet in F/A-18E/F version is probably already compatible as the F-35 Lightning II and F-15 Eagle. On September 16, 2024, during the Air conference, Space & Cyber Association of US Air Force Lockheed Martin introduced the latest version of its winged missile AGM-158 Jassm, known as Jassm XR (Extreme Range).

The new rocket is designed to preserve the possibilities of hidden and point impact, high range. About it reports Army Recognition. Until now, there were three versions of the Jassm missile: AGM-158 XR is designed to expand the range. Technical details are still secret, at the same time, Michael Rothstein, Vice president on Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control strategy, said the range was significantly different. According to the US Air Force, the Jassm-ER range exceeds 926 km.

John Hill, Vice president and Air Preference General Manager in Lockheed Martin, explained that Jassm XR was developed as the next Jassm-D and Lrasm-C3 iteration, which are currently concluded with the Air Force and the Navy. Hill emphasized that XR uses available production lines and processes. "We view XR as a rocket of a long -standing radius. It expands the existing Jassm and Lrasm family and carries more fuel, hence the flight range and the necessary fighters," he said.

Jassm XR saves the same warhead weighing 453. 6 kg as Jassm-Er. The design changes were made on the basis of Jassm-E and Lrasm. The new rocket is longer. Other potential improvements include the use of lighter alloys, improved aerodynamics, modified stabilizers or more efficient motor installation. Extended range enables the trigger to run Jassm XR from a greater distance and strike deeper purposes, remaining out of reach of enemy air defense systems.

At the same time, increasing the total weight of the rocket does not allow it to carry some combat aircraft such as F-16 Fighting Falcon. But F/A-18 Super Hornet in F/A-18E/F version is probably already compatible. F-35 Lightning II is expected to be compatible in the near future, along with F-15 Eagle. Recall that the Russian army plans to advance near Kharkiv.
