Experienced the Holodomor and occupation: at the age of 99, the linguist Maria Ivy died at the age of 99

To spread: on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the 100th year of life, the Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Language, a well-known linguist, a specialist in the problems of word formation, morphology and syntax, author of more than 300 scientific works Maria Yakivna Phushch. Her death was reported by the staff of the Faculty of Ukrainian Philology and Literary Creativity named after Andriy Malyshko of the Ukrainian State University named after Mikhail Drahomanov.

Maria Ivy was a well -known researcher in the field of linguistics, methodologist and education. She devoted almost 80 years to the university - from her student years to work as the head of the Department of Ukrainian Language. She was born on January 7, 1926, she survived the famine of 1932–33, occupation during World War II, post -war difficulties and a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. She did not live up to her 100th anniversary for eight months.

Until the last days, she remained in science that she considered a matter of life. We will remind, died Mykola Fedoruk, who was the mayor of Chernivtsi for 17 years in a row. He received the Order of Merit twice for effective management of the city, was a true patriot and a wise leader. At the time of his death he was 71 years old. We will add that since independence in Ukraine there is a steady decrease in fertility. However, in 2024, mortality in Ukraine almost three times exceeded birth rates.
