This was stated by the US Air Force commander in Europe and the NATO Union Air Command General James Heker, Defense One reports. According to him, unwashed or insufficiently prepared Russian conscripts who control unmanned systems, pose a serious threat. In particular, Heker noted that these operators can make mistakes due to lack of experience, which increases the risk of incidents similar to the Russian drone accident in Latvia.
General Heker added that cases of disruption of Latvia, Romania and Poland's airspace by Russian drones are a direct consequence of insufficient level of training of servicemen. "If you take people from the street that have not been trained and trained in military operations, the risk of miscalculations and errors is increasing. And I think we have seen it . . . in many invasions we watched in Romania, Poland and Latvia," Said the commander.
Hecker stressed that a complete solution requires improving the detection and tracking of new threats, such as inconspicuous UAVs. This requires the modernization of integrated anti -air and missile defense. He emphasized that standard radars are ineffective against drones with a small radar section that fly at very low altitudes (up to 61 meters) at a speed of about 93 km/h.
Due to the fact that most operations of such drones occur at night, even with the use of night vision glasses, it is difficult to detect them from a plane flying at a speed of up to 900 km/h. The warlord sees the solution of this problem in the use of new technologies, such as the Ukrainian Sky Fortress system, which uses a network of 9500 mobile acoustic sensors capable of fixing the sound signatures of drones and other inconspicuous objects.
