"Undesirable": in the Russian Federation are going to limit the activities of opposition media - isw

According to analysts, such measures can lead to a ban on entry into Russia for journalists of Russian opposition media based abroad, as well as for foreign media with Russian broadcasting. In Russia, they consider a bill aimed at limiting the activities of opposition media in the country on a long -term basis. Analysts of the American Institute of War (ISW) in its report from February 12 write about it.

According to ISW, the State Duma is considering initiative to restrict access to Russia for persons whom the government defines as "undesirable". Analysts suggest that such actions fit into a strategy on the censorship of the opposition media and the break of links between Russia and international organizations of foreign origin.

The Chairman of the Duma Committee on Security and Combating Corruption, Vasyl Pisarav announced the submission of a bill that will give the government the opportunity to recognize foreign organizations and their members "unwanted". This bill also provides for a ban on entry into Russia by foreigners, as well as stateless persons related to such "unwanted" organizations.

"The Russian authorities can also be prosecuted and deprived Russian citizenship of persons who are found guilty of participating in an" unwanted "organization," the report reads. Experts say that such measures can lead to a ban on entry into Russia for journalists of Russian opposition media based abroad, as well as for foreign media with Russian broadcasting, such as BBC and Deutsche Welle.

This will probably limit their ability to cover internal events in Russia and the activities of international non -governmental organizations in the country. According to ISW, such actions of the Kremlin are aimed at strengthening control over Russia's information space and suppression of dissident votes before the upcoming presidential election in March 2024.

We will remind, the Department of City Property of Moscow, on the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, terminated leases of land, provided under the placement of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Russian capital. Also, after the break of diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian authorities were offered to create a unique museum in the building of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Kiev, which will tell the true history of this state.
