Russia has lit up China with artificial sapphires: how they will help in creating gadgets

The smartphone and other device market is growing, so China needs extra raw materials for their production, but wants to be independent of Taiwan. The Russian company "Monocrystal", which is one of the largest suppliers of artificial sapphires, has increased its production by 17% due to supplies to China and other countries. The details reports the edition "Kommersant". Artificial sapphire glass is used by gadget manufacturers to protect displays from external influences and damage.

This material also acts as substrates under silicon crystals in processors. JSC "Energomir Concern", which includes "monocrystal", in its report states that such growth is caused by an increase in the LED market, an increase in sales of smart watches, smartphones and other gadgets. But mainly, this increase in electronics production is recorded in the PRC, where there is a need for artificial sapphires.

The company claims that the revenue of their Chinese unit Monocystal PV increased by 58 %last year, and net profit - 22 times. This year, Monocystal PV is also expected to increase profit by at least 10 %. Last year, the delivery of artificial sapphires to China increased to 310 tons. Monocrystal has a significant share in the world market of artificial sapphires. It accounts for 40% of raw materials to protect the displays and up to 80% of artificial sapphires for chips.

Market experts associate the growth of the production of Russian artificial sapphires with the fact that, given the sanctions of "monocrystal", it was necessary to increase exports to China. The Chinese industry, in turn, tries to be independent of deliveries from Taiwan, where the situation is unstable. However.

Experts do not exclude that much of artificial sapphires can go to re -export: from Russia to China, and then to the countries that have imposed their sanctions on artificial sapphires from the Russian Federation. For example, the Executive Director of the Rosshd Consortium Oleg Smargd notes that it binds an increase in the export of artificial sapphires to China is mostly associated with the expansion of eight Chinese processors.
