The Russian Federation purchases chips and servers for billions of dollars: who helps the aggressor bypass sanctions

The Russian Federation is ready to buy Western equipment at unjustifiably high prices because of intermediaries, since it depends very much on it. Russia allegedly continues to buy servers and data warehouses in the same volume as the imposition of sanctions in Western countries after a full -scale invasion of occupation troops into the territory of Ukraine. This was reported by the Russian news site Cnews.

According to the media, the flow of solid state drives to Russia increased 5 times from 2022 - to 148 thousand units in 2023. The country also received 126 thousand server units of foreign production, which is 1% more than in the 2021 estimate. The lion's share of this tide probably fell on Chinese distributors, which also provided the Russian Federation with processors. It is known that 89% of chips used today in the country are purchased in or through China.

It is also reported that Russia is still buying products from countries that, as stated, has terminated all the connections with it. CNEWS claims that Moscow has purchased 8 Date Centers at HP Enterprise for 665 million rubles ($ 7. 2 million). Such a high price is probably due to the import duties of China, India or the UAE, which helped Russia to obtain not only Date-Centers, but also Intel and AMD chips worth $ 1. 7 billion in 2023.

All this electronics is needed by Moscow to modernize outdated systems, writes Tom's Hardware. The Russian Federation is very dependent on foreign servers. Such conclusions are made by the US media from the fact that 69% of all servers used in the Russian Federation are produced abroad, with demand constantly increasing and the aggressor country is forced to buy equipment, despite high duties on import.

Companies like Yadro and Aquarius try to fill the gap by providing Russian production equipment, but it is still collected from American components, and the Russian technological industry can only last limited in isolated time. Will the Russian Federation weaken its global antagonism to lift sanctions, or whether it can find ways of large -scale production of computer equipment on its own is a big question, Tom's Hardware notes.
