Due to mass shelling, Ukraine has lost 8 GW of energy generation - Shmigal

According to the Head of Government, a structural restructuring of the energy and heat supply system in Ukraine should be started by the next heating season. Due to massive shelling by Russian occupation troops, Ukraine has lost 8 GW of energy generation, which has led to losses of over $ 1 billion. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmigal during the first meeting of the headquarters for preparation for the autumn and winter period of 2024/25.

"More than 800 heat supply facilities have been destroyed or damaged. After massive shelling, Ukraine has lost up to 8 GW of energy generation. There is also a loss in distribution systems. To restore the lost, a tremendous amount is required - about $ 1 billion," said Smigal. He specified that the blows will continue and the amount of losses will continue to increase.

The headquarters for the preparation for the autumn and winter period of 2024/25 was created in order to overcome the consequences of Russian terror, as well as to modernize and adapt the system of fuel and energy complex to new challenges.

The head of government, in addition to the losses for the power system, identified the following challenges that are now facing the Ukrainian leadership: the Prime Minister of Ukraine also stressed that by the next heating season it is necessary not only to restore everything to be restored, but also to start a structural restructuring of the energy system and heat supply. "We must make it invulnerable to Russian terror and at the same time effective and effective," Smigal said.
