Agility Prime is a AFWERX Air Force Innovative Unit, aimed at working with industry for the development and demonstration of electrical aircraft of vertical take -off and landing (VTOL). The US Air Force will provide six months to create a working group from moving to Agility Prime, which will be valid by the end of September 2027. The working group will search for programs or other activities in the US Army, where you can use Agility Prime technologies, including electric "flying cars".
It will also develop and implement a strategy for the transmission of Agility Prime experience to other executive offices of military programs. The head of the US Air Force will head the working group.
By the end of September 2025, it will have to submit to the Committees of Defense of the House of Representatives and the Senate reports describing the progress in the development or purchase of hybrid or electric aircraft VTOL, as well as plans for the transfer of these technologies to the military procurement or research and development program. The following reports will be submitted annually over the next two years.
According to the publication, since 2020 the US Air Force has already concluded contracts with more than a dozen companies to create the mentioned "flying cars". The department has already put forward the idea of using Agility Prime technology for combat rescue operations, as electric planes can work much quieter than conventional fuel helicopters.
The US Air Force was previously experimented with electrical aircraft created by Joby Aviation and Beta Technologies for transportation of spare parts or cargoes at the base, and earlier this year conducted training on the evacuation of victims on the usual runway of Beta Technologies. Recall that in October last year the Dutch company Pal-V reported the start of production of a flying car Liberty. In 2024, 90 such devices worth 499,000 euros are planned.
