Russian SCR C-400 targets French aircraft atlantique 2 over the Baltic Sea

The incident happened against the background of an exacerbation in a strategically important region where Russia and Western interests are often confronted. These operations were intensified in response to recent incidents, including damage to underwater telecommunications and power cables. On the night of January 15 to January 16, the Patrol Plane of the Navy of France Atlantique 2, which operated under the NATO mission, was illuminated by the radar of the Russian C-400 air defense system.

These actions, described as aggressive and contrary to international standards, have condemned the French Minister of Defense Sebastien Lecorton. His post was published on the social network H. The incident occurred against the background of exacerbation of tensions in the Baltic Sea, a strategically important region where Russia and the West often face. NATO patrols in the Baltic Sea are aimed at ensuring maritime security and protecting critically important infrastructure in the region.

These operations were intensified in response to recent incidents, including damage to underwater telecommunications and power cables, which European leaders associate with potential sabotage acts by Russia. The Baltic Sentry Operation mobilizes frigates, maritime aircraft such as Atlantique 2, and naval drone for effective monitoring of these strategic waters. In this case, French Atlantique 2 conducted inspections near Swedish and Baltic waters, scanning about 200 vessels.

Based on the capabilities of the radar and range of the C-400 system, it is likely that the responsible battery was in the Russian Kaliningrad Anclav. Kaliningrad, located between Poland and Lithuania, plays a key role in Russia's air defense strategy. The region housed the C-400 batteries since their initial deployment in April 2012. Breguet Br. 1150 Atlantic is a maritime aircraft aircraft developed by the French manufacturer Breguet. It was supposed to be a replacement of Lockheed P2V Neptune.
