Plan for three: who will help Ukraine transport more European gas bypassing the Russian Federation

Increasing the capacity of GTS Romania, Ukraine and Moldova decided after market demand was estimated. It turned out that the maximum guaranteed gas transportation capacity from Moldova to Ukraine is about 21 million cubic meters per day. The operators of the gas transport systems of Ukraine, Romania and Moldova are working on a mechanism that will allow to expand the reverse capacity of the transbalk pipeline. This was reported by the press service of the GTS operator of Ukraine.

The project of creating a new, increased capacity between GTS Romania and Ukraine and GTS of Moldova and Ukraine is based on the estimation of market demand, which was carried out in 2023. Thus, the GTS operator of Ukraine received applications for guaranteed power in the direction from Romania to Ukraine at a maximum demand level of 18 million cubic meters per day. And in the direction of Moldova to Ukraine, the maximum demand is almost 21 million cubic meters a day.

Consultations of GTS operators also take place within the memorandum of cooperation to create the gas corridor "South-Polnich" ("Vertical Corridor"). Ukraine became a participant of the project on January 19. Thanks to the implementation of the project, the GTS operator of Ukraine will supply more than 7 billion cubic meters of "blue fuel" annually through Ukraine from Romania to Central Europe.

It should be noted that part of the transbalk pipeline passes through Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey. By 2019, the gas pipeline was pumped by Russian gas on the Balkans. In 2019, part of the gas pipeline in Turkey and Bulgaria was part of the Balkan Stream. We will remind, in May last year information emerged that LLC "Operator of GTS of Ukraine" (OGTSU) and operator of the Polish gas transmission system (GTS) Gaz System will build a new gas pipeline and gas -metering station.
