The rivalry of Mercedes and Auto Union, Ferrari and Lamborghini, Ford and Ferrar...

Automobile Wars: The most fierce confrontation in a car star (photo)

The rivalry of Mercedes and Auto Union, Ferrari and Lamborghini, Ford and Ferrari became history and became legendary. In some places, these duels were very tense. The car history is rich in real manufacturers. Whether in the car market, or on the racing track sometimes small wars were fired. Focus chose the most famous and most fierce confrontation that became famous throughout the world. The first major confrontation took place in the mid-1930s.

The formula class was dominated by the so -called "silver arrows" - German racing cars that were higher than rivals. The history of "silver arrows" began 90 years ago - in 1934. The race Mercedes-Benz W25 was more difficult than allowed, so at night before the debut at the Germany Grand Prix it was drawn from all paint and at the start of the races the carriages shone with silver bodies. 354-horsepower Mercedes W25 could accelerate up to 282 km/h and had no equal.

He won the debut race, and in 1935 Rudolf Karracchiola became the champion of Europe, winning at 5 Grand Prix of 7. However, Mercedes had a worthy competitor-the medium-mothorn cars Auto Union (concern, which included Audi), created by Ferdinand. 375-horsepower V16. They were also started to paint in silver. The match between Mercedes and Auto Union took place at speeds of more than 200 km/h. In 1936, a 520-horsepower Auto Union Type C appeared, capable of developing 314 km/h.

Behind his wheel, Bernd Roseyer won three races and took the champion crown in the Mercedes. For a revenge in Stuttgart, a real monster was created-Mercedes W125 with a 5. 6-liter compressor "eight" for 595 forces, which developed 320 km/h. Interestingly, the more powerful formula cars appeared only in the early 80's. The silver Mercedes won four five races and Rudolf Karachchiola returned the championship title. Of course, such cars were very dangerous.

At the beginning of 1938, Bernd Roseyer was killed, when trying to set a world speed record on the highway. It was decided to limit the volume of the car engine at 3. 0 liters, so new "silver arrows" with V12 engines appeared. The Mercedes showed the 468-horsepower BOOLL W154 and Auto Union-485-horsepower Type D. The winner of the championship was Rudolf Karachchiola, bringing the third title of Mercedes.

In 1939, due to the beginning of World War II, the best was found, and this confrontation of "silver arrows" ended. Enzo Ferrari's contemporaries said he had complex characters, which made it often earn enemies. One of them was Feruchio Lamborghin. Lamborghini earned millions in the production of tractors and acquired several Ferrari. Supercari often broke and once the Italian could not stand - went to Enzo Ferrari and expressed his claims.

He advised Lamborghini to engage in tractors and learn to make a car. It was very affected by Feruchcho and he decided to challenge Ferrari. In 1963, he founded Automobili Lamborghini in Santa-Agata-Bolonze (only 15 km from Ferrari in Maranello). Most of her staff were former Ferrari workers who were fired because of a conflict with the boss. The prototype of the first supercar of Lamborghini 350 GT was created in 4 months, and in 1964 it started its production.

This 280-horsepower developed 245 km/h and was more comfortable and reliable than Ferrari. However, Ferrari's new Lamborghini Miura 1966 was truly challenged, which is considered the founder of modern supercars. The coupe was attracted by a vivid design from Marchello Gandini and had an innovative medium -motility layout. 350-horsepower V12 allowed to develop 277 km/h. Ferrari responded with a more traditional 365 gtb/4 daytona model.

It was not so avant-garde, but it turned out to be faster-352-horsepower V12 accelerated it to 280 km/h. In addition, they released 1350 Daytona against all 760 Miura. Subsequently, Ferrari appeared an analogue of Miura - a streamlined medium -motility supercar Berlinetta Boxer 380 hp. However, Lamborgini was already ace in Feruchchoo - a new supercar of Marchello Gandini.

At first, he had no name, but when the first prototype was brought to the Lamborghini factory, one of the workers exclaimed "Countach!" (something like "Wow!"). This is how they decided to name the car. The low compartment looked like an alien from the future, and his chips were the door that climbed up. The 380-horsepower supercar was not inferior to Ferrari, but was faster-290 km/h. The confrontation of two marks continues to this day.

The answer to the Ferrari F40 was Lamborghini Diablo, and Lamborghini Gallardo was created as a competitor Ferrari 360 Modena. Even when Lamborghini released the Urus crossover, a few years later, its analogue Ferrari Purosangue appeared. This story is so legendary that it was written about it, which was then filmed by the Hollywood blockbuster "Outsiders" with Christian Baile and Matt Damon in the lead roles.

The head of the Ford Motor concern Henry Ford II dreamed of winning 24-hour races in Le-Man. To this end, he decided to buy Ferrari, which at that time began financial difficulties. Henry Ford II offered $ 18 million for Ferrari and promised to leave Enzo Ferrari headed by the company. However, at the last moment, the agreement broke out: Ferrari learned that he would not be able to make his own decisions, but would have to consult with new owners.

Angry Henry Ford II decided that he would be able to win on his own and bypass Ferrari. He gathered a team of engineers and began the development of the race Ford GT40. Sports were ready in 1964, but the debut 24-hour races they failed-they all got off the distance and Ferrari won. Then Henry Ford II sought help to the racer and designer Carolla Shelby, who created the racing cobra. Shelby finalized the Ford GT40 and equipped it with a huge 7. 0-liter V8 with a capacity of 485 forces.
