How Ukraine will celebrate the 31st Independence Day in war: Program of events

On Wednesday, August 24, Ukraine will celebrate Independence Day - simultaneously defending its independence in a full -scale war, which Russia started exactly half a year ago. This year, Ukraine will celebrate the 31st anniversary of the proclamation of independence not only in the conditions of martial law, but also against the background of a new threat of massive missile shelling of Ukrainian cities, including Kiev.

Such risks were warned by the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Ukrainian intelligence, military experts, the capital's authorities and even President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who noted that throughout this week Russia "can cook something particularly disgusting and cruel. " There is no video of parades or other mass events on Independence Day in Ukrainian cities.

In particular, from August 22 to 25, it is prohibited in Kyiv “Conducting mass events, peaceful meetings, rallies and other measures related to large crowds of people”, said the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Major General Mykola Zhirnov. A similar decision was made in many other regions of Ukraine, not only close to the front line (Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv), but also in relatively safer regions (mass events in Volyn region were abolished, limited in Lviv).

In the Kharkiv region on August 23-24, even an elongated curfew is introduced: it will last from 19:00 on August 23 to 07:00 on August 25. However, some public events on the occasion of Independence Day of Ukraine will still take place on August 24: as reminded in the Kiev subway, from August 21 to August 24, the Kiev subway works on a short schedule: from 06:00 to 21:00.
