Achilles' Shield for $ 3 billion: Greece has launched a large -scale program -up program

To spread: Greece's armed forces intend to deploy a multi -level national air defense system designed to protect airspace from modern air threats, including drones, missiles and aircraft. It is planned that the system will be completely ready for operation by 2027. Greek Prime Minister Kiriakos Michotakis presented in Parliament a program "Achilles' Shield"-a large-scale project to create an integrated multi-level air defense system. About it reports Army Recognition. 2.

8 billion euros ($ 3 billion) have been allocated for the implementation of the project, and it will become a central element of the overall program of modernization of Greece's national defense worth 25 billion euros. It is noted that Greece modernizes the air defense system against the background of increasing instability in the region.

Of particular concern are: today the Greek armed forces have 81 anti-aircraft missile complex, of which: analysts emphasized that these systems, although reliable, but outdated in terms of response speed, network integration and multitasking capabilities. One of the key components of the Achilles Shield can be the Israeli Barak MX system, developed by ISrael Aerospace Industries (IAI).

It provides target interception from 35 to 150 km and is able to fight UAVs, aircraft, winged and ballistic missiles. The system has already been chosen by countries such as Germany and Finland. Greece already has American Patriot systems. If we bought new, waiting time would be four to five years. European opportunities are limited. Israel with which we support the strategic union can offer solutions faster, "said Michokotakis.
