Putin spoke with Trump about Tomahawks and the situation at the front: the Kremlin revealed the details

Share: During a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin once again stated that the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would harm Russian-American relations. He also assured Trump that the Russian Armed Forces "have the strategic initiative" on the entire front. The results of the conversation between Putin and Trump, which lasted 2. 5 hours, were summed up by Yuriy Ushakov, assistant to the President of the Russian Federation.

His statements were broadcast on the evening of October 16 by the Russian propaganda news agency "RIA Novosti". According to Ushakov, the negotiations took place at the initiative of Russia and were mostly devoted to the issues of the war in Ukraine. "Putin gave a detailed assessment of the situation with the Ukrainian crisis. The Russian Armed Forces fully possess the strategic initiative along the entire line of combat," said an aide to the Russian dictator.

At the same time, according to Ushakov, Putin emphasized that Russia is committed to the "political-democratic path of settlement in Ukraine. " Also, the assistant of the President of the Russian Federation claims that the leaders discussed the "deep sympathy of both countries". Regarding the supply of Tomahawks to Ukraine, Putin repeated his thesis that this will not change the situation at the front, but will harm relations between the Russian Federation and the United States.

Ushakov confirmed that the presidents discussed the possibility of a personal meeting in Budapest. "Trump mentioned this place, Putin supported this proposal. Possible dates will be discussed by the representatives of the two countries," said the aide to the President of the Russian Federation.

According to him, the representatives of the countries will start preparations for the summit with the telephone contact of the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov. "Trump told Putin that he would take into account the Russian president's considerations during contacts with Zelensky. Putin and Trump agreed to stay in touch," Ushakov said. Donald Trump also announced after the telephone conversation that he will meet with Putin in Budapest.

He called the conversation "very productive" and said it "provided a lot of progress. " He also expressed hope that the meeting in Hungary will allow us to see whether it is possible to "put an end to this "inglorious" war between Russia and Ukraine. " According to the US president, he also discussed with Putin the prospect of economic cooperation after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The meeting between Zelenskyi and Trump is scheduled to take place at the White House on October 17.
