The Armed Forces have achieved advantages in the Bakhmut area sufficient to consider tactical, and continue the counter -offensive in at least three other directions. ISW notes the presence of the 127th Division and the 60th Brigade of the 5th General Army in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.

The deployment of almost all the eastern grouping of the Russian Federation and large units in the south of Ukraine shows that the defense of the Russian Federation in the south may be fragile. According to Mashovets, the only reserve of the Russian Armed Forces in the south of Ukraine consists of parts of the 29th General Army-the least numerous general military army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation. It has only one maneuver brigade-the 36th motorizer.

Its units participated in the battle for Kiev at the beginning of a large-scale invasion of the last year and under the collet at the beginning of 2023, where, apparently, they lost enough personnel. According to ISW estimates, the Russians have built a large line of defense in the south of Ukraine, but it cannot be called irresistible. In the case of an operational breakthrough of the Armed Forces, the Russian forces, most likely, would have to roll into pre -prepared defensive positions.

Pressing under pressure is an extremely difficult military task, while it is difficult to say whether the Russian forces can move from their first borders to other prepared borders, especially without support. As before, ISW assesses that the Ukrainian forces, apparently, try to gradually reduce the Russian Federation in the south - and over time, the defense of the Russian Federation becomes more and more fragile.
