Russian Federation uses balloons to control Finland: How effective is it

Military observers noted that the balloons with opto-electronic stations are successfully used for military purposes. They make it possible to increase the coating and, accordingly, the area of operation of radio stations and drones. In Karelia, on the border with Finland, Russian military launched balloons that are equipped with radar and video surveillance systems. The devices can monitor the situation near the border from the air for several days, according to the Estonian news portal ERR.

The balloons are used by Russian border guards, in particular to prevent illegal immigration to Finland. It is noted that if the violators are detected, they will be tracked by "transmitting information about the route online. " According to open sources, these devices are part of the reconnaissance complex, which also consists of a control machine and a special gas station for refueling.

As the "militaristic" observers explained, the balloons that use helium are able to stay in the air for up to 75 hours. At the same time, they can rise in the air from 300 to 1000 meters with a load weighing up to 16 kg and be in working order for gusts of wind up to 25 meters per second. Experts also added that such capabilities of static balloons have made them a valuable tool for war.
