"Like for your": Lukashenko requires compensation from Russia - details

The construction of the Belarusian NPP was planned to be completed in 2020, however, the completion of the works were postponed to 2022. The works were carried out at the loan funds provided by Russia, the Russian company and their technologies. President of Belarus Oleksandr Lukashenko demands that Russia pay compensation for delay with the commissioning of the Belarusian NPP (Belaz). Radio Liberty writes about it.

According to the Belarusian leader, the timing of commissioning shifted through the Russian side. Meanwhile, Russia proposed to replace Belarus nuclear fuel "as for its stations" and a five -year guarantee for the main units. "Naturally, under the contract we asked them the question of compensation. It is not necessary to hide it. There was nothing extraordinary there," - said Alexander Lukashenko.

Belarusian NPP: What the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (Bilaes) is known near the city of Ostrovets of Grodno region and consists of two units. Its construction began in 2011. In terms of work, Belarus took a loan of $ 10 billion for 15 years. In particular, the commissioning of the second unit of Belarus was planned for 2020. However, the completion terms were officially postponed to 2022. They built a station according to the Russian project "Vver-1200".

The first NPP power unit was officially opened on November 7, 2020 and the second - at the end of 2022. It should be noted that shortly after the opening of the first NPP unit stopped work due to the explosion of the voltage transformer. Already on November 20, 2020, the nuclear power plant resumed work. Also in April last year, the media reported the probable exposure of staff at the Belarusian NPP. Such construction in Belarus was adversely accepted in neighboring countries.

Yes, in 2019, Dalia Gribuskaite, at that time, President of Lithuania, stated that the site for the nuclear power plant was dangerous and the NPP is a threat. At the same time, Lithuania stated that the construction is in violation of safety requirements and without compliance with international standards. Also in 2020, the Baltic countries officially refused to buy electricity in Belarus. The reason for this was the launch of a nuclear power plant in Ostrovets.

In May 2023, the Lithuanian State Nuclear Energy Safety Inspectorate officially sent a letter to the Ministry of Emergency Situations with a request to stop the operation of NPPs. Then Belarus expressed the requirement to stop the operation of power units to resolve all security issues. Recall that recently the Britain's parliamentarian called for strengthening sanctions due to a blow to Russia at Khmelnytsky NPP on October 25.
