The advantage of undermining hydroelectric power plants will be short for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation - Bloomberg (photo)

When the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station is devastating, a completely new landscape will emerge, which can potentially provide opportunities for the Ukrainian defense forces. After the breakthrough of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, on June 6, the flood created an obstacle to Ukrainian troops, which lose the opportunity to force the Dnieper River within the framework of the counter -offensive.

However, it should be noted that this advantage for the Kremlin may be temporary or have limited effects. About it reports Bloomberg. Below the dam, the level of flood waters has already begun to decline, and in the end the river will return to its former state, although with some new obstacles, such as mines and debris thrown ashore.

However, above the stream, when the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station is devastating, a new landscape will emerge, which can potentially provide opportunities for the Ukrainian forces. This will create new conditions that can be used in Ukrainian strategy and operations.

The Washington War Study is already making changes to its battles field maps to reflect a sudden decrease in water level, which leads to a decrease in the distance between the Ukrainian forces and the occupied territories on the eastern coast of the reservoir. The dam was destroyed at the moment when the Ukrainian armed forces began a counter -offensive, which was planned for several months.

The purpose of the counter -offensive was to restore control over territories that were captured by Russia in the south and east of Ukraine as a result of the invasion of last year. Given the deployment of Western weapons worth billions of dollars along the 1500-kilometer front, the Dnieper River becomes an important part of the battlefield. It protects troops that oppose each other at most of the southern part of the river.

However, it also creates a serious logistics problem for Ukrainian strategists who work to supply their strength as they have been promoted. River transport infrastructure and control of bridges and crossings are important aspects to ensure a continuous flow of resources and support of Ukrainian troops. The final length of this barrier will depend on how badly the dam is damaged, as well as the sludge that has accumulated at the bottom of the reservoir since the construction of the dam in 1956.

"The key issue here is the height of the dam left underwater after destruction," the head of the Department of Hydrology of the National Meteorological Service of Ukraine Ilya carriers said in a telephone interview. "This height determines the amount of water that will remain. " We will remind that the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin stated that Ukraine allegedly undermined the Kakhovsk hydroelectric power station.

According to him, the destruction of the dam was unprofitable for the Russian Federation, because it harms "new Russian territories". It was also reported that Ukrhydroenergo explained what to do with the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station undermined by the Russians. Specialists of Ukrhydroenergo are already working on a stop of water operation from the Kakhovka reservoir through the dam of hydroelectric power plants.
