In Zaporizhzhya reported a suspicion of a law enforcement officer who demanded a bribe from 100 thousand hryvnias from a serviceman not to hold him accountable, despite the fact that the fighter of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was not guilty of a traffic accident.

This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation. This law enforcement officer investigated the circumstances of the accident, which occurred in April 2024. The participant but not the culprit of the accident was a military man who returned from the front after injury. "Despite the fact that according to preliminary data, the serviceman was not the culprit of the accident, the personality began to demand money from him for not bringing to justice," - said in the message.

Initially, the law enforcement officer received 60 thousand UAH, but he was not enough, so he began to demand another 40 thousand hryvnias, for which he also offered to return the seized car of the serviceman. The attacker is charged with Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - extortion and obtaining undue benefit. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years.

"The issue of choosing a preventive measure about the suspect and removing him from his duties is currently being resolved," the DBR said.
