They do not believe in the European Union: Finland came up with how to harm the Russian Federation without EU sanctions

According to the Minister of Climate and Environment of Finland, Kai Mukkejanne, a specific date when the ban starts operating. In Finland, they decided that they would prohibit the import of Russian liquefied gas (LNG). The ban is expected to work at the national level, since the European Union is not yet ready for such a step. About it reports the edition of Helsingin Sanomat.

As the Minister of Climate and Environment of Finland explained Kai Mukwannen, the goal is that the ban on working in 2025. "I do not want to promise a specific date, but I hope next year we will find ourselves in a situation that the ban will work," he said. He noted that the European Union is in no hurry to sanctions, as some bloc members are opposed to it. "It is a fact that such a decision cannot be made in the European Union," Finnish minister said.

We will add that Finland does not import pipeline gas from Russia, but continues to buy LNG, explaining it with contractual obligations. It is expected that the entire legislative framework to ban the Russian resource will be ready for spring. After that, the Finnish government may submit its proposal to ban import. Mukquanen specified that the project should be carefully prepared.

It is noted that according to the text of the decree, Finland also intends to consult the European Commission (EC) to take into account possible concerns in neighboring countries. The ban, if it appears, will only work for some time. For Finland, Lithuania, which has already refused to import Russian gas, could be an example. The corresponding amendments to the natural gas law was adopted on October 26, 2023. According to Lithuanian Dynus Cravis Minister, Russian liquefied gas from Poland.

Cryogas M&T Polska was supplied. But now not only import but also loading, as well as degassing of Russian liquefied natural gas in Lithuania. Earlier it was reported that Finland will still pay Moscow for gas for several more years, even if it stops import. All because the Gasum State Company has a valid contract with the Russian oil and gas group "Gazprom", which is based on the principle of "take or pay".
