The American came to Ukraine to teach Ukrainian soldiers the techniques of modern war used in the United States. He was 45 years old. Nicholas Meimer, an American veteran, died at the front near Bakhmut. CNN informs about it. Retirement Lieutenant Colonel Perry Blackburn, a close friend of Maimer, said that the American volunteer was in the premises of the collapsing building at the time of the shelling. According to him, the Ukrainians who were near and fought with Meimer believed that he either found himself trapped under the rubble, or died as a result of the "heavy fire" of Russian artillery. "Unfortunately, Nick could not escape," Blackburn explained.

Meimer's death was confirmed by the head of the Russian private military company "Wagner" Yevgeny Prigogin. He showed the body of the killed American. Nicholas Meimer is a veteran of the US Army Special Forces. He has served more than 20 years. The military served in the active army for over two years, leaving it in 1998. He later joined the US National Guard in November 2000. He decided to go in December 2018. In the spring of 2022 he arrived in our country.

He collaborated with representatives of the non -profit organization AFGFREE, which includes members of the volunteer group of veterans of special purpose forces and citizens who perform evacuation and humanitarian assistance operations in Ukraine.
