In the German Ministry of Finance, they do not support the mandatory call to the army: Minister named the reason

According to Christian Lindne, an increased stock is a better alternative to conscription, active conversations about which have been activated again. The head of the German Ministry of Finance Christian Lindne does not support the proposal to return the mandatory conscription to the army because it considers it economically disadvantageous. This is discussed in Spiegel.

In particular, arguing his position, the official noted that, given the process of aging society and lack of labor, the economic costs of general military service would be quite significant. In addition, the German Minister insists on strengthening the Bundeswehr military reserve. According to Lindne, a reinforced stock can be a better alternative to conscription, the active discussion of which has recently been resumed in society with new power.

The Head of the Ministry of Finance of Germany believes that citizens should be able to voluntarily take on the obligation to be regularly accessible to the Bundesver over a longer period of time, along with the continuation of their civilian career. "Our armed forces must be highly specialized and durable. This requires filling in available positions and improving the ability of the Bundesver to recruit reservists," he added.

Separately, the minister indicated the need to strengthen cyber defense. Kristian Lindne also believes that due to Russia's attack on Ukraine, peaceful order on the European continent is generally questioned. On March 5, a number of German media has led the words of Germany's defense Minister Boris Pistorius, according to which by the fall of 2025 it is necessary to return the compulsory conscription.

At the same time, he allegedly studies the possibility of introducing a Swedish model of conscription. In addition, on March 28, it became known that Ukraine will receive a new large package of military assistance from Germany. The Bundesver noted that it consists of two directions. First of all, it is about the funds allocated as part of the Federal Government initiative to strengthen security potential. At the same time, the materials are supplied from the reserves of the federal armed forces.
