Strike on the drilling rig "Syvash": the Armed Forces could have used unknown naval drones (video)

According to the information of the Ukrainian Navy, as a result of the attack, an elite special unit of the enemy stationed on the platform was hit, as well as an anti-tank missile complex, probably 9K135 "Kornet", and technical means of intelligence and surveillance were destroyed. The Navy did not specify which drones were used, but the published footage shows the use of kamikaze drone carriers.

In this regard, Defense Express analysts noted that the video from open sources makes it possible to consider several possible options. Experts call the Barracuda BEC the most likely option, one of the newest naval drones of the Navy of Ukraine, developed in the 40th separate coastal defense brigade. There are nine known modifications of the Barracuda, and the appearance of not all of them has been shown publicly. In the video, you can see the characteristic shape of the nose part.

As for the accuracy of pointing, the use of artificial intelligence systems, which were previously mentioned by the Barracuda developers, is not excluded. The second option is a modification of the Sea Baby drone developed by the Security Service of Ukraine. The design of the device captured in the video is similar to the Sea Baby variant captured by the Russians in September 2025.

In particular, attention is drawn to the rise in the area of ​​the engine with characteristic cooling elements visible in the thermal image of the FPV drone. The location of the antennas, radar and cells for FPV drones is also the same, although the internal configuration of the case is slightly different. Another version is a new type of naval drone that has not been shown publicly before.

Similar devices were already used by the Navy in December 2024, when an attack on gas platforms in the Black Sea was recorded. At the time, analyst HI Sutton suggested that it was an experimental model of the FPV drone carrier drone, the image of which he published. Perhaps the current attack was carried out by a modernized version of the same type. Analysts have also noted that Russian sources have contradictory descriptions of the events.

According to some reports, six drones attacked from one direction, according to others, nine devices from two directions. At the same time, they all agree that only one drone reached the target, and the rest were allegedly destroyed by air defense, including Lancets and Kornet ATGMs.

However, an analysis of the released video shows that at least two kamikaze drones hit the target, and some of the devices were likely to function as re-launch FPV drones and could return to base after completing the combat mission.
