In the Russian Federation, called the 2C9-1M "sniper mortar": what experts say

This nickname was obtained by the ability to produce two shells in a row with a minimum interval. However, the other modernized system is little different from the Soviet mortar 2C9 "Nona". During the military conflict in Ukraine, Russian troops actively use 120 mm self-propelled mortar 2C9-1m. The modernized version of the Soviet mortar 2C9 "Non-S" has received a number of improvements aimed at achieving high accuracy and versatility.

Army recognition observers have been told about what the Russian self -esteem represents. The 2C9-1M mortar was equipped with a fire control system and satellite navigation, which should significantly increase its combat capabilities. It is able to impress goals with high accuracy at a distance of up to 9 km, using a wide range of ammunition - from fugas to smoke and inflammatory.

One of the key features of the machine is the ability to use NATO ammunition, which provides flexibility in logistics and allows you to act on the background of the complex dynamics of conflict. 2C9-1M operators compare it with a "sniper rifle" because of the ability to produce two shells in a row with a minimal interval, which is especially important in city battles.

Combined with high mobility and amphibian capabilities, this mortar is effective in complex terrain and can quickly adapt to different conditions of combat. 2C9-1M machines are widely used in the airborne units of Russia. In parallel, Russia modernizes outdated versions of 2C9 "Nona-C" and the 2C9-1 Sviristka system, equipping them with similar fire control systems and satellite navigation, which allows to extend the life of these artillery platforms.

The main weapon of the mortar is a smooth-bore 120mm gun 2A51. It can shoot both mines and artillery shells, which makes it universal. Up to 40 shells can be inside the machine, of which 25 are ready for immediate use and the rest are placed in special containers. The firing range is from 1. 7 to 9 km, and in the case of active-reactive ammunition reaches 12. 8 km. The installation speed reaches 10 shots per minute when the fire is fired.
