Representatives of the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Estonia sent a written demarche to the Directorate of Continental Europe of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, December 12. Last week, the draft of the document was handed over to Prague by the capitals of other European countries. It is the Czech Republic that is now presiding the EU Council.
According to diplomats, the unofficial document lists all the chronology of cooperation and attempts of dialogue with the Russian Federation, from the Basic Act of NATO - Russia in 1997 and ending with proposals in December 2021, which took into account the guarantees that the Russian Federation was needed.
In an interview with the French TF1 TV channel on December 3, French Chairman Emmanuel Macron said that Russia should have a "guarantee" in the future security structure in Europe, when the country returns to the negotiation table. At the same time, Macron noted that the decision to negotiate between the Russian Federation and Ukraine should be approved by Kiev.
Last Friday, December 9, the official representative of the French president told reporters that there was nothing new in Macron's comments. In addition, in his opinion, statements allegedly fully correspond to the position of Ukraine, which also spoke about negotiations after the war. We will remind, after a massive shelling of Ukraine on November 23, NSDC Secretary Alexei Danilov published a tweet stating that there will be no negotiations with the Russian Federation.
