The European Commission has officially recommended to suspend simplified visa regime with Russia

The European Commission on Tuesday, September 6, proposed to fully suspend a simplified visa agreement with Russia's aggressor country. The decision should now be made by the EU Council. According to the EU press service, it is an answer to increased risks and threats to the interests of EU and Member States because of Russia's aggression.

"A country such as Russia leading an aggressive war should not claim to simplify the visa regime as long as it continues its devastating foreign policy and military aggression against Ukraine . . . ", - the message said. Video Day in the European Commission explained that the Russians will encounter a longer, more expensive and difficult process of obtaining a visa, and EU countries will be able to control more carefully who receives the visa.

At the same time, the European Union will remain open to some categories, including "EU family members, journalists, dissidents and civil society representatives. " Visa fee for citizens of the terrorist country will increase from 35 to 80 euros, the time of processing the request-from 10 to 15 days and can be extended to 45 days in some cases. The Russians will also need more documents when requesting a request, and reusable visas will be harder.
