In the Pentagon, they think the categories of 30 years ago and are going to fight the mythical USSR, not with the leading states, analysts believe. The US may reduce the cost of information war, as the Pentagon will somewhat abolish the forces of special operations. However, China and Russia, on the contrary, are expanding their influence in Infopol, which is a cause for concern, writes Defense One.

The Pentagon recommended to reduce the number of support, logistics and liaison operators up to 3000 people. The released funds will be directed to the purchase of weapons. The forces of special operations, which have in their structure, were threatened by the abbreviations, which are responsible for the operation of military information support (MISO) in their structure.

The MISO operators engaged in the maintenance of the information war, and are so numerically inferior to the same forces of opponents - Russia and China. And now their ranks can be detached. Russia has shown its influence in Infopol by engaging the troll army to form discussions on US social networks, the creation of fake news and dipphers to convince the Russians that NATO is a threat to them.

China also conducts complex information operations that allow, for example, to influence Taiwan elections. According to one high -ranking representative of the US Defense Ministry, who wished to maintain anonymity, the PRC and the Russian Federation have invested a lot of money in the information war, so they received an advantage in it. He noted that the United States is significantly inferior to these countries in this battlefield.

The source believes that the US military is too cautious during psychological operations because they are afraid of pressure from the government and the public. However, MISO plays a large role in armed conflicts, since operators are trained in psychological influence tactics, which allows to resolve some conflicts without weapons - through persuasion, negotiations.
