It was damaged below the waterline. The tanker crew was not injured as a result of the explosion. It is also reported that oil leakage has not happened. According to the media, the Seajewel ship transported oil from Russia to Europe despite the sanction, which makes it part of the so -called "shadow fleet" of Russia. The Savona Prosecutor's Office is investigating the many possible causes of the explosion, including mechanical malfunction, collision, or even an explosive device.
The authorities carry out technical inspections, referring to "some anomalies" in the process of oil unloading. It is noted that Seajewel has repeatedly transported Russian oil - in 2024 he loaded cargo in Russia several times before making stops in ports such as Constanta (Romania) and Jahan (Turkey).
The publication also writes that the Russian "shadow fleet" works in the Baltic Sea and consists of old vessels, which often act under opaque property and have no proper insurance, often changing registration under the flag. These vessels account for about 17 percent of oil tankers in the world. It should be reminded that the GUR reported that Russia spent $ 10 billion on old vessels, which it uses for the transportation of oil to bypass sanctions.
