In Russia, a modernized BTR K-16 "Boomerang" was tested: whether the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation will be replaced by old cars

After testing the armored vehicle, she should go to the series. However, Western experts point out that initially the Boomerang platform faced problems due to sanctions restrictions on the supply of foreign equipment. The Russian military at one of the military training grounds conducts tests of the latest armored personnel carrier K-16 "Boomerang", designed to replace outdated Soviet analogues BTR-80 and BTR-82.

According to some reports, this armored vehicle should be arrived by the end of this year. This was reported on November 27 by Army Recognition. The material states that initially the Boomerang platform encountered problems during development, including design shortcomings and the need to replace foreign equipment due to sanctions restrictions in supplies.

However, according to Russian sources, the completion of these tests is scheduled for the end of the year, after which armored vehicles based on Boomerang should obtain permission for mass production. The new APC should be positioned as a modernized replacement of armored personnel carriers designed to perform various functions in the military, including amphibious, operations. To do this, the machine is equipped with two water drivers, and the main diesel engine with a turbocharged 750 hp.

The armor of the machine, according to the developers, designed to counteract anti -tank weapons. "The protection of the machine is provided by ceramic armor and technologies that prevent fragments of shells," the observers write.

The authors of the publication also noted that among the noticeable features of the new version of "Boomerang" - a reinforced and slightly changed front of the case, and on the sides of the machine between the axes there are two additional containers. The fire power of the BTR K-16 is provided by a 12. 7-mm large-caliber machine gun and a remote combat module, which allows to install a 30mm automatic gun and anti-tank rocket complex "Cornet-EM".
